Nathan Harrison followed some of the most illustrious names in Motorcycle Racing history, adding his name to the Senior Manx Grand Prix Trophy that has previously been won by multiple world championship winners Phil Read and Geoff Duke. In the winners enclosure after the race Harrison explained that he only began to focus properly in the latter half of the race; "to be fair I couldn't get into my own groove (in the early stages of the race) and I only got going after the pits." After Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson's unprecedented decision to move the Senior Race forward a day from its traditional Friday slot due to Friday's poor weather forecast, the Senior Manx Grand Prix Race, the final race of the meeting, got underway on time at 2.30pm. Race fans on the Isle of Man were treated to a stunning finale with the Senior Manx Grand Prix providing drama and excitement throughout the four lap race. Yorkshire's Matt Stevenson eventually put the disappointment of crashing out of the Junior Race earlier in the week, when comfortably leading the race, to win the Senior Manx Grand Prix adding his name to the illustrious list of previous winners that includes Harold Daniel, Doug Pirie, Geoff Duke, Phil Read, Nick Jefferies and Ryan Farquhar. However, he nearly threw it away with a ten second pit lane penalty for refuelling with the engine switched on and only a last lap charge, which saw him make up a twelve second gap, gave him the chequered flag from Steven Parsons. Dom 'the bomb' Herbertson clinched his first Mountain Course win with victory in today's Locate.im Junior Classic TT Race at the 2018 Isle of Man Classic TT Races presented by Bennetts. After the race the Newcastle-based rider, riding the Davies Motorsport Honda, revealed what the race win meant to him. "It's a feeling like no other. It means everything to me. I've worked really hard and this feeling is not going to go away any time soon. I can't believe this is happening. You don't just need talent but loads of luck with Classic racing." After a disrupted qualifying week, it was difficult to assess form and machinery in the Junior class but Jamie Coward, on the Ted Woof/ Craven Honda topped the qualifying board from Herbertson - the pair were the only ones to post 100mph+ laps. Competitors at this year's Aberdare Park Road Races will be the first to experience an improved track on which to race with the news that organisers Aberaman Motorcycle Club have secured funding to resurface the circuit in advance of this year's meeting on July 21st and 22nd. The park, located just ½ mile from the centre of the South Wales town, first hosted motorcycle racing in 1950 and has since welcomed many of the greatest names in the sport. The late John Surtees took his first ever motorcycle race win there in 1952 when he was aged just 18. In 1955 it hosted the first motorcycle race meeting ever to be televised live while other legendary names to have raced at the park include Mike Hailwood, Phil Read and Bob McIntyre. In 1988, Carl Fogarty set a new outright lap record for the 1.45km circuit. Bradford's Dean Harrison won the coveted Manx Gas Solo Championship Race at the International Southern 100 Road Races becoming the 61st winner of the prestigious award since the races were first run in 1955. Liverpudlian, Terry Shepherd was the first rider to lift the winners trophy completing the then 24-lap race, exactly 100 miles in 1 hour 18 minutes 11.8 seconds an average speed of 78.260mph on his 500 Manx Norton. On the 1000cc Silicone Kawasaki Dean Harrison took just 20m 9.203s to complete the nine laps (38.25 miles) at 113.877mph to become the 35th rider to have his name inscribed on the much-prized trophy. Winners of the Southern 100 Solo Championship have included Manx Grand Prix and TT winners, British Champions and World Champions. Cal Crutchlow dominated at the greatest MotoGP track of them all. What a shame that some fans spoiled a great day by cheering Marquez's crash Cal Crutchlow's second MotoGP victory was even better than his first, mainly because every rider knows a dry win counts for more than a wet win. He now stands alongside Leslie Graham, Geoff Duke, John Surtees, Mike Hailwood, Phil Read and Barry Sheene as the only Britons to have scored two premier-class victories in one season. In other words, he's in the Pommie pantheon. Once again Crutchlow showed aggression and intelligence - he was one of the few to choose Michelin's hard-option front slick and understood that whenever the sun disappeared behind the clouds the track temperature dropped, so he had to push harder (but not too hard) to keep the tyre hot enough to grip the track.
